For this was Saint Valentine’s Day,
When every bird cometh there to choose his mate.— Geoffrey Chaucer, in a poem written to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia. This piece of literature is the first recorded association of Valentine’s Day, according to Wikipedia.

Haiku You →
An experiment I’m trying. With Haiku You, anyone can be a poet, with the Internet as your stage. I literally just created this tumblelog, and it’ll be adapting and growing with time, but the main part of Haiku You is “you”. Simply visit here and submit your own haiku (make sure you know what a haiku is first though). Have fun!

Walt Whitman’s “Passing Stranger”
Passing Stranger! You do not know how longingly I look upon you, You must be he I was seeking, or she I was seeking, (it comes to me as of a dream,)
I have somewhere surely lived a life of joy with you,
All is recall’d as we flit by each other, fluid, affectionate, chaste, matured,
You grew up with me, were a boy with me or a girl with me,
I ate with you and slept with you, your body has become not yours only nor left my body mine only,
You give me the pleasure of your eyes, face, flesh, as we pass, you take of my beard, breast, hands, in return,
I am not to speak to you, I am to think of you when I sit alone or wake at night alone,
I am to wait, I do not doubt I am to meet you again,
I am to see to it that I do not lose you.

Is Sarah Palin secretly a beat poet? Do her words make little to no sense because she is so immersed in language and lyrics that she operates on a plane we cannot grasp? We sincerely doubt it, but that was the implication last night as William Shatner appeared on the “Tonight Show” and read Sarah’s resignation speech in his typical Shatner way, with all the lilting and soft drum beats we’ve come to expect. It was quite magical. (via Huffington Post)
