1. Mickey Mouse is 81 years-old (young?) today. Can you believe it? He looks amazing, doesn’t he?
The character of Mickey Mouse made his debut on November 18, 1928, in a black and white cartoon called “Steamboat Willie.” Disney celebrates this day as his official birthday. Today, Mickey can be seen on the Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (sing with me: “hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog … “), in films, and of course at his regular haunts — Disney Land and Disney World. 2. The world’s first Muslim cartoon superheroes have taken the Arab world by storm, and now they are headed for British television screens, says the Telegraph.
Named the 99, as each possesses one of Allah’s 99 attributes, the characters include a burka-clad woman named Batina the Hidden and a Saudi Arabian Hulk-type man named Jabbar the Powerful.

  3. Will Cartoon Network Become "The Network"? →

It seems that all of television is slowly losing its identity. The History Channel doesn’t cover history. TV Land clogs their airwaves with run-of-the-mill reality shows. Comedy Central gives Carlos Mencia his own show.

It must be hard to draw in the kind of ratings the average television executive expects (average=viewers who are willing to commit mass suicide if they miss a rerun of Chico and the Man) when you’re anchored to one theme or genre. But it’s not impossible.

One network that seems very close to giving up entirely is the Cartoon Network. According to the Los Angeles Times, CN’s new lineup of live-action, reality-based programming is tanking in the ratings and rumors are swirling that the CN may drop the “C” in its name. Does the head of Radio Shack now work for the Cartoon Network?

  5. Good News Everyone! Futurama Cast Inks Deal With Fox →

The Star has learned exclusively that the voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox after weeks of intense salary negotiations. As late as last week, the network was threatening to replace the original voices of Matt Groening’s cult-hit cartoon, to the point of actually announcing a casting call for voice actors to replace them. The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.
